The Choral: Leeds cinema audience surprised by live choir performance ahead of historical drama film viewing
A Leeds cinema audience were surprised by a live choir performance ahead of a viewing of The Choral.
Filmgoers in Leeds were surprised by a musical performance as the Honley Male Voice Choir delivered a powerful show ahead of a recent screening of The Choral.
The special event took place at Showcase Cinema de Lux Leeds, with the choir, which was founded in 1936, performing in the foyer to an appreciative audience before the film.
Video footage shows the Honley Male Voice Choir, smartly dressed in matching suits, serenading customers with a warming rendition of ‘Tell My Father’ from US musical The Civil War.

Their appearance added an extra layer of meaning to a story that celebrates the transformative power of music and community.
The Choral, directed by Nicholas Hynter and starring Ralph Fiennes, is a British historical drama that was filmed in Saltaire and Harrogate centred around a fictional Yorkshire choral society.
As their male members face conscription into the army during the First World War, a demanding Dr. Guthrie is forced to recruit teenagers into the society.
Marketing director at Showcase Cinemas, Jon Dixon, said: “We were honoured to welcome the Honley Male Voice Choir to Showcase Cinema de Lux Leeds.
Their live performance brought an extra layer of emotion to the evening, and beautifully complemented the themes of The Choral.”
Customers enjoyed the live choral set in the foyer, before taking their seats to experience the emotional story of music and identity.
