When Hollywood came to Horbury – for 24 hours!
The trailer for the Tinsel Town movie, featuring Horbury, is out
Eagle eyed Sky TV viewers may have spotted a glimpse of a local Wakefield haunt in the trailer for the brand-new Christmas film, Tinsel Town, due to be released on Sky Cinema on 5th December.
It’s not every day that movie stars like Kiefer Sutherland and Rebel Wilson pop into a pub in Horbury but that’s what happened in early 2025 when the Sky crew took over the town and filmed in and around The Cricketers on Cluntergate.
The movie was filmed at several locations in the UK, including Leeds, Harrogate, and Knaresborough, but the pub scenes were filmed at The Cricketers. You can catch a sneak peek in the trailer at 47 seconds in. See it here
Jo Waude manages The Cricketers, which is part of Beerhouses. She said: “Dressing the pub again for Christmas in January and giving up my flat above the pub to serve as Rebel Wilson’s dressing room isn’t an average day, but it was exciting to have a film crew and so many well-known stars here. We can’t wait to see the film in full!”
The movie also stars Mawaan Rizwan, Derek Jacobi, Danny Dyer, Katherine Ryan, Asim Chaudhry, Jason Manford and Meera Syal among others.
The release of the film on December 5 comes just after the pub celebrates 15 years as a Beerhouses pub (though the pub itself was built in 1898) with a weekend of live music, raffles, competitions, and a Yorkshire Buffet planned November 28-30.
Resident quiz master, Harry Wilkinson is also planning a special birthday quiz so will Tinsel Town be included in that? Cricketers’ regulars will have to wait and see…
