The Golden Beam, Headingley: Decision on drinking hours extension at Leeds pub due after Otley Run rejection
A decision on whether to allow a Wetherspoons’ pub in a student-heavy area of Leeds to serve alcohol until later will be made today.
The application to extend The Golden Beam in Headingley’s hours will be mulled over by Leeds City Council members this afternoon (Tuesday).

The variation to its premises licence would allow drinks to be sold until midnight on Sunday to Thursday and 12.30am at weekends.
It comes after an application to allow those taking part in the infamous Otley Run to enter the Headingley Lane pub was blocked in December.
Twenty-two objections have been received to the latest application from people living nearby and Headingley Green Party councillor Tim Goodall.
Coun Goodall’s letter said: “Allowing the Golden Beam to open later is likely to lead to increased consumption of alcohol, which is then likely to lead to an even higher rate of drunk and disorderly crime.”
The current licence allows alcohol sales until 10.30pm during the week and midnight on Friday and Saturday.
The condition preventing Otley Runners in the pub was offered by Wetherspoon when it was first granted a licence in 2020 to set up shop in the Grade II listed building.
The pub crawl has drawn complaints of anti-social behaviour including violence, littering and public urination.
The meeting of the Licensing Sub-Committee will start at 10am. Members will have the option of granting or refusing the application, or allowing it with additional conditions.
