And many businesses departed the city this year, citing the ongoing cost-of-living crisis and changing customer trends as reasons for their closures.
This includes Nam Song, a much-loved Vietnamese restaurant on New Briggate, which shocked customers when it announced its closure in August.
Mr Whippy also announced its departure from Roundhay after 25 years. Owner Ian Smith had been working in the business his whole life and the decision came as the business was looking at downsizing and “taking things a little easier”.
