A major supermarket is gearing up to offer one of the biggest early-careers opportunities in UK retail, with 500 paid apprenticeship roles set to launch this year.
For anyone looking to earn while they learn, or switch careers without taking a pay cut, this could be a rare foot-in-the-door with one of Britain’s fastest-growing supermarkets.
Discount grocer, Aldi now the UK’s fourth largest supermarket, is opening applications for apprenticeships across stores and warehouses nationwide.
Roles are designed to combine hands-on work with industry-recognised qualifications, meaning apprentices start earning immediately while building skills that can lead to long-term progression.

What do Aldi apprentices earn?
Unlike many entry-level schemes, Aldi’s apprenticeships come with market-leading pay from day one.
Store apprentices start on £12.02 per hour, rising to £13.35, while those working within the M25 begin on £13.22 per hour. Warehouse roles can pay up to £12.63 per hour, depending on location and role.
Aldi also stands out as the only UK supermarket to offer paid breaks to all store colleagues, a perk estimated to be worth around £1,470 a year. That’s money most retail workers elsewhere simply don’t get.
Who can apply?
Lisa Murphy, Training and Development Director at Aldi UK, said the scheme is open to people from all backgrounds and experience levels.
“This is a genuine opportunity to learn on the job, build valuable skills and earn market-leading pay - all while working for one of the UK’s biggest grocery retailers,” she said, encouraging anyone interested to apply regardless of previous experience.
The recruitment push follows Aldi’s continued investment in staff pay and benefits, including a £36 million wage boost for store colleagues.
What other benefits are included?
Successful applicants will also receive:
- 28 days’ paid holiday, including bank holidays
- Staff shopping discounts
- A bike-to-work scheme
- Access to free mortgage advice and education
