Shoppers at a major supermarket chain could soon notice bigger aisles and revamped layouts.
Aldi has committed more than £300 million to upgrading and extending existing branches across the UK in 2026.
The investment forms part of the retailer’s wider growth drive, with the latest announcement focusing on improving the in-store experience for current customers.
Many stores will be extended to create more space to shop, while others will receive layout redesigns, refreshed fixtures and updated signage.

Sustainability is also high on the agenda. Planned improvements include installing fridge doors to cut energy use and switching to natural refrigerants to help lower carbon emissions.
The retailer says these measures are designed to make stores more energy efficient while maintaining its low-price model.
Several locations have already been confirmed for extensions in the coming months. These are:
- Beck Road, Huddersfield
- Glamorgan Vale Retail Park, Llantrisant
- Bebington Road, Bebington
- Springbank Road, Stirling
- Smithdown Road, Liverpool
- Brooks Road, Lewes
In addition to extensions, a number of stores will undergo upgrades this year. Confirmed locations include:
- Chester-le-Street, County Durham
- Handsworth Road, Sheffield
- Haverhill, Suffolk
- Tybridge Street, Worcester
- Chorley, Lancashire
Aldi UK and Ireland CEO Giles Hurley said the improvements will help the retailer serve more customers while enhancing the shopping environment for both staff and shoppers.
The £300 million programme comes shortly after Aldi confirmed a separate £370 million investment to open 40 new UK stores in 2026.
Both initiatives sit within a broader £1.6 billion investment plan announced last year, as the discounter works towards its long-term ambition of operating 1,500 stores nationwide.
