A major supermarket’s popular £1 meal deal aimed at older shoppers is about to come to an end, and there are just days left to take advantage of it.

Asda has issued a final reminder that its much-used ‘Winter Warmer’ café offer for people aged 60 and over will finish on Friday, February 28.

The scheme, which has been running throughout the colder months, allows eligible customers to enjoy a hot, filling meal for just £1 at any of the supermarket’s in-store cafés.

Under the deal, over-60s can get a bowl of soup, bread, and unlimited tea or coffee for £1 in any of Asda’s 212 cafés nationwide.

The initiative is designed to help pensioners cope with rising living costs during winter, when heating bills and food prices can place extra strain on fixed incomes.

The demand has been huge. Last year alone, more than half a million £1 meals were served, highlighting just how important the offer has become for many older shoppers.

Asda says uptake this winter has remained strong, prompting the supermarket to encourage anyone eligible who hasn’t yet used the deal to do so before it ends.

But the offer isn’t just about saving money. Asda’s Community Champions have been actively inviting local over-60s groups and individuals into store cafés, using the £1 meal as a way to combat loneliness and encourage social interaction.

Research shared by the supermarket previously revealed the scale of the issue, with one in 10 people over 60 unsure whether they would speak to anyone at all over the festive period.

Another one in 10 said they had gone to a supermarket simply to have a conversation with someone.

Jordan Cummings, Buying Manager for Cafés and Concessions at Asda, said the final reminder comes as many pensioners are still feeling the pinch.

He explained that while the meals help with costs, the cafés also provide a relaxed, welcoming space for people to connect with others.
