Bakery chain set to open new Greggs store at Leeds City Station next month

Leeds City Station is set to welcome its first Greggs store next month.

The popular high street chain filed a planning application for a unit on the southwest side of the station concourse earlier this year.

The move marks the first time in recent history that the Newcastle-based bakery chain will operate in the train station.

New signage has gone up in the station saying “Roll on opening” with the date December 27 for the new store to open as preparation work continues.

Earlier this year, the submitted planning application said: "The proposed advertisement and internal works are entirely sympathetic to the Grade II listed building and its location within the conservation area.

"Therefore, given the character of the shopfront and adjacent units, and the respectful approach to the listed building, we respectfully request that Listed Building consent is forthcoming as detailed on the submitted drawings."
