Bluebird Bakery set for Chapel Allerton expansion with new café
Award-winning sourdough bakery Bluebird Bakery is opening a new cafe in Chapel Allerton, Leeds 🥖
Yorkshire-based Bluebird Bakery is set to open its seventh café, as the family-run business prepares to bring its fresh sourdough bread to Chapel Allerton.
The bakery, which already has a strong presence at Leeds Kirkgate Market, was founded by Al and Nicky Kippax after the couple decided to leave London and return to Yorkshire.

“We are thrilled to be opening a new shop and café in such a vibrant suburb. Leeds is where I grew up, and we have both lived here. It’s a special place for us,” Nicky said.
“Our Kirkgate Market shop is lively, so we’re hoping that an appetite for our products will continue into Chapel Allerton, which is full of independent businesses like ours.”
The new shop will be based at 6 Stainbeck Lane in the north Leeds suburb and is expected to open this summer. Sticking to the brand’s concept, the venue will sell Bluebird Bakery’s signature sourdough bread, made using local, organic flour and long fermentation times.
Al Kippax said: “It’s definitely not a fast process, but it’s the best way to achieve a fuller flavour and an end result that ticks the boxes for being both nutritious and delicious.
“Thankfully, it’s not just me baking anymore - we have a talented team who work very hard and contribute ideas about what we create, which keeps our flavours fresh and exciting.”
Founded in York 14 years ago, the new café and shop will join Bluebird locations in Acomb and Little Shambles in York, as well as Beverley, Malton, Holmfirth and Kirkgate Market.
