Harewood House confirms lockdown opening as it announces Leeds Christmas programme

Harewood House has confirmed its grounds, gardens and adventure playground will remain open to visitors during lockdown.

In line with Government legislation, the outdoor areas of the 18th-century estate are permitted to open throughout the next four weeks.

This includes the adventure playground, where face masks are advisory, the Italianate Terrace, Archery Border, Walled Garden, Himalayan Garden, Grounds and Lakeside Walk.

Takeaway food and drink will be available from the Bothy Teahouse and Horsebox and the Courtyard shop will offer a click and collect service.

The Harewood Estate is set to launch its programme of Christmas activities from a later date of Thursday December 3.

All productions of Lord Whitney’s Upon a Christmas Wish have been rescheduled to next year and ticket-holders will be contacted by Harewood House.

But there is still a packed schedule as the house and gardens are transformed with decadent trees, Christmas lighting and the introduction of a new Festive Hideaway adorned with firepits.

Tickets are available for socially-distant events including the return of festive workshops, festive afternoon teas, artisan shopping weekends and a new opportunity to visit after dark in Harewood Lates.

Harewood House Trust director Edward Appleyard said: "At a time of such uncertainty, we’re delighted Harewood’s grounds and gardens can remain open and offer a safe sanctuary to those wishing to visit in the coming weeks.

“We’re full of hope and our whole team is now focused on delivering a compelling and magical Christmas programme with the same Harewood spirit and vigour we’ve become respected for and look forward to welcoming everyone to share safely in the celebrations with us from Thursday December 3.”

Tickets to Harewood’s festive season are on sale now at www.harewood.org
