Shoppers in a major Yorkshire city have just weeks left to use one of the area’s best-loved discount supermarkets.
Iceland has confirmed it will shut a Sheffield branch in two months’ time, with the Chester Road, Woodseats store closing on Saturday, April 18, 2026.
The retailer operates more than 900 stores across the UK, but says the Sheffield closure forms part of a wider strategic review of its retail footprint.
The company has not given a specific reason for shutting the branch, but it confirmed that affected staff will be supported in finding alternative roles within its wider network.
For local shoppers, the change means travelling further for their frozen food shop. Iceland has directed customers to its nearest large-format store, The Food Warehouse at Heeley Retail Park in Sheffield, which will continue serving the area.

The closure will come as a disappointment to regulars, particularly given the store’s reputation. Customers have described the Woodseats branch as “exceptionally tidy and well organised”, with one calling it the “best Iceland store I have been in by far”.
While store closures are never welcome news on the high street, they are becoming increasingly common as major retailers reassess costs, footfall and long-term strategy.
Supermarkets have been adapting to changing shopping habits, including the growth of online grocery orders, rising property costs and shifts towards larger out-of-town retail parks.
Iceland said in a statement: “We can confirm that the Iceland Foods store on Chester Road, Woodseats in Sheffield will be closing on Saturday, April 18, 2026.
“We are working closely with affected store colleagues to identify other potential opportunities within our network.
“The closest The Food Warehouse store is located at Heeley Retail Park, Sheffield, and we look forward to continuing to serve customers in the local area.”
Shoppers who rely on the Woodseats branch may wish to plan ahead before the April deadline, particularly if they use it for regular frozen food top-ups or multi-buy deals.
