Jobcentre on Wheels: new support vans roll out to more UK areas as unemployment rises - full list of locations
A new pop-up employment service will visit neighbourhood locations across the district 🚐
- Wakefield will host one of nine new Jobcentre on Wheels vans
- The mobile service brings job support into local communities
- Help includes CV advice, job search support and benefits guidance
- Stops will be announced locally, with visits to parks and high streets
- The expansion comes as UK unemployment rises to 5.1%
One of a fleet of mobile jobcentres is set to arrive in Wakefield as part of a nationwide push to bring employment support directly into local communities.
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has confirmed that the West Yorkshire town will be one of six new areas to host a Jobcentre on Wheels, a service designed to reach people who may not otherwise engage with traditional jobcentres.
Nine vans will operate across the country, expanding on a pilot scheme previously rolled out in the Scottish Highlands, North and Mid Wales, and Greater Manchester.
The mobile units are intended to “break down the barriers that stop people finding good work”, according to Work and Pensions Secretary Pat McFadden.

Rather than requiring people to travel to a fixed jobcentre branch, the vans will visit community locations such as leisure centres, high streets and parks, effectively taking employment advice into the heart of neighbourhoods.
Exact dates and locations for Wakefield stops are expected to be announced locally. Keep an eye on DWP updates and local council communications for details of when and where the Jobcentre on Wheels will be visiting the area.
Here are the full locations where the expanded Jobcentre on Wheels service will operate:
- Barrow-in-Furness (Cumbria)
- Blackpool (Lancashire)
- Wakefield (West Yorkshire)
- North Nottinghamshire
- Bridgend (South Wales)
- Rhondda Cynon Taf (South Wales)
- North Somerset (South West England)
Visitors can expect access to the same type of help offered in a standard jobcentre.
This will include advice on job searching and applications, CV support and interview preparation, guidance on training and skills opportunities, and information about benefits and in-work support.
The expansion comes amid rising unemployment. Figures from the Office for National Statistics show the UK unemployment rate for people aged 16 and over stood at 5.1% between September and November last year, up from 4.4% during the same period in 2024.
The Government says the mobile service forms part of its wider commitment to reform employment support and boost access to work.
