Meet the delivery robots set to transform food orders in Headingley and Hyde Park

New robot delivery services will be delivering food straight to your door across the streets of north Leeds from next month.

The Starship robots, which have already been trialled in some part of the city, will be delivering food in Headingley, Hyde Park and Woodhouse in partnership with UberEats.

Households in parts of north and east Leeds can already have Co-op groceries dropped off by wheeled buggies.

Leeds City Council teamed up with the retailer and Starship Technologies /news/politics/leeds-robot-delivery-expand-shoppers-5076215to launch a pilot scheme aimed at reducing car pollution in 2022.

The little robots can complete journeys of up to two miles in under 30 minutes.

Local councillors Jonathan Pryor and Abdul Hannan shared the news and welcomed their arrival.

They said: “We’re so pleased to be working on how new technologies can improve our neighbourhoods, and to be at the forefront of new technologies here in LS6.

“These robots can complete journeys of up to two miles in under 30 minutes, meaning sustainable and fast deliveries.

“Nine million deliveries have been completed by these robots globally already, so they are tried and tested.

“Their introduction will mean fewer delivery vehicles on our roads, helping lower both congestion and air pollution.

“We’ll be keeping an eye on how things go, making sure the service is safe, fair, and truly benefits our neighbourhoods.”
