Leeds motorway services named among the UK's 10 best-rated by drivers

A Leeds motorway service station has been named among the UK's best-rated by drivers in a new ranking.

Skelton Lake Services on the M1 at junction 45 has been ranked sixth out of 97 motorway service areas analysed across the UK, based on Google reviews.

The Extra site has an average Google rating of 4.26 stars from 1,913 reviews.

The ranking was compiled by family holiday company Ski Famille, which analysed Google ratings for motorway services ahead of the October half-term getaway.

The sites were ranked according to their average score, calculated from their full star breakdown, with both sides of the motorway combined where Google lists them separately.

Skelton Lake was the highest-rated service station in West Yorkshire to make the list and was one of just two Yorkshire sites to feature among the UK's top 10.

Further south on the M1, Rotherham's Welcome Break services was named the highest-rated in the country, with 4.81 stars from 2,909 reviews.

Meanwhile, two services on the A1(M) in North Yorkshire appeared among the UK's lowest-rated.

Leeming Bar, operated by Moto, was second-bottom with 3.26 stars from 2,151 reviews, while Scotch Corner was ninth with 3.71 stars from 6,599 reviews.

Services with fewer than 500 Google reviews were excluded from the analysis, as was one site where the main building is currently closed.

A Moto spokesperson said: “A great customer experience is hugely important to us and we continually listen to feedback to understand where we can make improvements across our sites.

“While this particular ranking is based on publicly submitted Google reviews, which can vary considerably in volume and over time between individual locations, broader independent customer research provides a different picture. The in-depth Transport Focus Motorway Services User Survey found that 94% of respondents were either satisfied or fairly satisfied with their experience at Moto sites.

“We nevertheless take every piece of customer feedback seriously and will continue investing in our facilities and working with our teams to give motorists the best possible experience when they stop with us.”
