Primark: major UK clothing chain to alter opening times for 24 hours at all stores on Easter Sunday 2026

Fashion fans planning a shopping trip may need to rethink their plans 🛍️

  • Primark has confirmed all its Yorkshire stores will close for more than 24 hours over the Easter weekend
  • Shops across England, Wales and Northern Ireland will shut on Easter Sunday (April 5)
  • The closure is required under the Sunday Trading Act 1994, which restricts large shops from opening that day
  • Most stores are expected to close around 10pm on Saturday and reopen about 8am on Easter Monday
  • But shoppers are advised to check local opening times and plan trips in advance

Shoppers planning an Easter weekend trip to one of Yorkshire’s many Primark store will need to plan ahead after the retailer confirmed all of its stores in the region will shut for more than 24 hours next month.

The high street fashion chain has announced that every store in England, Wales and Northern Ireland will close on Easter Sunday (April 5), meaning its Yorkshire branches will shut their doors.

The closure is linked to the rules set out in the Sunday Trading Act 1994, which requires large shops over 280 square metres to remain closed on Easter Sunday.

Because most Primark branches fall well above that size threshold, they must comply with the legislation.

For shoppers, the change means stores will close on Saturday night and remain shut throughout Sunday.

Most branches typically trade until around 10pm on the Saturday evening and are expected to reopen at around 8am on Easter Monday, creating a closure period of more than 24 hours.

A spokesperson for Primark confirmed the arrangement, saying: “On Easter Sunday only stores in Scotland will be open and all stores in England, Wales and Northern Ireland will be closed.”

While Primark usually operates seven days a week, the Easter Sunday rule applies to most large retailers across England. As a result, shoppers will also find many other major high street stores closed on the same day.

Branches north of the border are exempt because Scotland does not follow the same Easter Sunday trading restrictions.

Primark currently operates around 190 stores across the UK, including several in Yorkshire’s major shopping centres and high streets.

Customers planning last-minute clothing purchases or Easter weekend shopping trips are therefore advised to visit earlier in the weekend or wait until Easter Monday, when stores reopen.

The retailer has also encouraged shoppers to check the opening hours for their nearest branch before travelling, as exact closing and reopening times may vary between locations.
