Shoppers feeling the pinch at the tills may want to take a closer look at one particular UK supermarket over the next few weeks.

Sainsbury’s has rolled out a wave of price cuts of up to 50% on everyday food staples, targeting customers who are increasingly searching for better value on their weekly shop.

From Monday, January 25 to Tuesday, February 17, the retailer is offering discounted prices on more than 30 popular items, spanning fresh fruit and vegetables through to fridge essentials.

How to get Sainsbury’s latest offers

Rather than blanket price cuts, the retailer is leaning into loyalty-based deals to tempt shoppers away from rival supermarkets.

The offers are available both in selected stores and online, but there is a small catch in that you’ll need a Nectar card to unlock the biggest savings. For anyone not already signed up, the deals may provide a nudge to join.

Sainsbury’s says the move comes as searches for “value” have jumped by 50% week-on-week, highlighting just how focused households are on keeping food costs down.

Customers in-store just need to scan their loyalty card at the checkout, while online customers will see the lower prices automatically applied, provided their Nectar and Sainsbury’s accounts are linked.

What’s on offer?

Among the most eye-catching reductions are everyday fridge staples that many shoppers buy week after week.

Lurpak Slightly Salted Butter, for example, has been slashed to £2.37 for Nectar members, down from £4.75 without a loyalty card, a saving that will stand out to anyone who’s winced at butter prices recently.

Fresh produce is also firmly in the spotlight. Sainsbury’s blueberries have dropped to £1 with a Nectar card, compared with £2 for non-members, while kale has been cut to 44p from 89p.

Other discounted items include Philadelphia Original Soft Cream Cheese 165g, now £1.10 instead of £2.25, and Sainsbury’s Medium Ripe & Ready Avocado, reduced from 75p to 37p.
