Emmerdale: Post office linked with ITV soap to go under hammer with £200,000 guide price

A property which is familiar to millions of viewers as the post office in ITV’s long-running soap Emmerdale is set to go under the hammer this month.

The post office property in the village of Esholt near Bradford, will appear in the next online auction held by Pugh, part of Eddisons, on 28 January, with a guide price of £200,000.

A spokesman said: “The auction follows the successful sale of the post office business itself last month to local resident and Emmerdale fan, Helen Myers, marking the next chapter for one of television’s most recognisable locations.”

"Esholt became synonymous with the soap after the production relocated from its original filming base in Arncliffe in Littondale. The village remained the home of the show until 1998, when filming moved to a set on the Harewood estate and the post office appeared in hundreds of scenes, becoming one of Emmerdale’s best-known landmarks.”

While the post office business continues under new ownership, generating an annual rental income of over £11,000 via a six-year lease that will be up for renewal in 2031, the Grade II listed, end-terrace property is to go up for auction. According to auctioneers, the sale offers the chance to acquire a building with both commercial potential and television heritage.

Pugh director Will Thompson said: “Esholt post office is not only an attractive and characterful building in a sought-after village, but it also has a special place in the hearts of Emmerdale viewers across the country.

“The business sold before Christmas to a new owner who is enthusiastic about running the post office as a real community asset for the people of Esholt - and the auction of the property itself is an exciting opportunity for buyers looking for something genuinely unique.”

The online auction opens on 27 January and closes the following day. Details of the post office and the full auction catalogue are available at www.pugh-auctions.com
