'End of an era' as popular Leeds LGBTQ+ venue The Bridge announces closure
A bar that has long served Leeds’ LGBTQ+ community has announced its shock closure
Popular LGBTQ+ bar The Bridge, on Bridge End in Leeds City Centre, has announced its shock closure in a post on social media.
In a heartfelt message to customers old and new, the team said it was “with great sadness and a heavy heart” that rising costs have pushed the business to the brink.

“Due to circumstances very much beyond our control, like others we have seen rising costs cripple many independent businesses,” they said.
“There has been blood, sweat and tears put into Bridge as you see it now. We can only thank our customers who have supported us for nearly five years.”
The team also paid tribute to the many customers, performers and staff who have “walked through our door” over the years.
“It’s not goodbye, it’s see you soon,” they added.
The announcement has been met with sadness across the community in Leeds, with many sharing memories of the venue and its impact.
One customer said: “I met my other half in there 25 years ago and we are still together. End of an era if the doors are closing for good.”
Another added: “When I came out over 20 years ago, I came to Leeds to ‘find myself’ as a wholesome Catholic girl.
“It was the first gay venue I’d ever experienced. I even worked behind the bar for a while. Sorry to hear this and good luck for the future.”
