First look as St Gemma’s charity shop moves into huge new Leeds superstore
The opening coincides with new and returning students arriving in Leeds
St Gemma’s Hospice has announced it is relocating its existing charity shop within Leeds’ Merrion Centre to a significantly larger new store this September.
The new 3,811 sq ft superstore will be located near the centre’s main entrance on Merrion Street and will feature a “fresh, contemporary and colourful” new look.

It will offer an extensive selection of pre-owned fashion, alongside homeware, children’s toys and more.
St Gemma’s Hospice runs 27 charity shops across Leeds and the surrounding area, with the Merrion Centre store its last remaining Leeds city centre location.
It originally opened in October 2018 as the charity’s first shop inside a shopping centre and has found popularity amongst the area’s many students.
St Gemma’s head of retail, Jane Kent, said the Merrion Centre shop’s popularity shows how much appetite there is in the city centre for pre-loved shopping.
“We’re incredibly excited to be expanding our presence at the Merrion Centre and introducing customers to our new-look store,” she said.
“Since opening in 2018, our Merrion Centre shop has built a fantastic following and demonstrated just how much appetite there is in the city centre for high-quality pre-loved shopping. The larger space will allow us to offer an even greater range in a bright, colourful and contemporary environment.
“Every purchase and donation to our shops helps support the care provided by St Gemma’s Hospice, so we’re looking forward to welcoming existing customers and a new generation of shoppers through our doors.”
St Gemma’s Hospice’s new store is expected to open during the third week of September, coinciding with thousands of new and returning students arriving in Leeds for the new academic year.
