New Lidl store in Birstall to open by Christmas as main construction works set to begin
A new Lidl store at Birstall Retail Park is set open before the end of the year with the main construction phase work ready to commence.
Lidl GB will be joined by Home Bargains on the site, off Bankwood Way, with up to 110 new jobs being created across both stores.
Since last summer, contractors have undertaken extensive enabling works to safely clear and prepare the site, with Lidl, in partnership with Cookridge Retail developments, ready to move into the next stage of the transformation.
The store is on track to open before the end of the year, while Lidl has committed to a £160,000 contribution towards off-site highways work. This community investment will fund a brand-new pedestrian crossing on Gelderd Road, ensuring easier access for residents.
The new Lidl store will feature an in-store bakery and the iconic Middle of Lidl aisle. There will be a 145-space shared car park, which includes accessible parking spaces and parent and child bays.

Councillors gave the go-ahead for the new Lidl supermarket and Home Bargains store four years ago.
Just as the ground works get underway, Lidl is looking to help build healthy habits in Birstall. The retailer is inviting local primary schools to join the Lidl Foodies programme. This free initiative aims to support the next generation to develop a love for healthy eating, with a focus on fresh fruit and veg.
