A Nordic-inspired independent homeware and furniture retailer has closed its physical store in central Leeds after nearly six years of trading.
Shoppers recently noticed that North Home’s store in the historic Victoria Quarter had shut its doors, prompting questions about the future of the business.
The retailer has now confirmed the closure, saying it is restructuring while it considers the next phase of the brand.

In a statement to the Yorkshire Post, North Home co-founder Simon Hawkins said the decision had been difficult but necessary given the current retail climate.
“After nearly six wonderful years trading in Leeds, we’ve made the difficult decision to leave our physical store while we restructure the business and explore the next chapter for North Home,” he said.
“Retail has changed significantly in recent years and, like many independent businesses, we’ve faced increasing costs. Taking this step now gives us the opportunity to protect what we’ve built and focus on the future of the brand.”
Hawkins added that the company will continue operating online, and all existing customer orders will still be fulfilled, although delivery times may be slightly longer than usual.
North Home first opened in the city in 2020 at Victoria Leeds, quickly establishing itself as a destination for Scandinavian-style interiors. In November 2024, the business expanded into a much larger four-storey space in the nearby Victoria Quarter.
The new flagship store showcased Nordic-inspired design across multiple floors, offering a wide range of furniture, ceramics, lighting, kitchenware and skincare products.
Many of the collections came from Scandinavian designers that are not widely stocked in the UK. Brands available in the store included Fischersund, HKliving, Seletti and HAY, alongside ceramics from Lee Simmonds Ceramics.
The interior of the Victoria Quarter store was designed by Yorkshire-based commercial interiors specialist Design Tonic, combining contemporary Scandinavian styling with the heritage architecture of the Grade II-listed shopping arcade.
Despite the store closure, Hawkins said the business hopes to share more about its future plans soon, adding that the team remains grateful for the support it has received from the Leeds retail community since launching.
