'Iconic' Leeds horse sculpture removed from site outside former Lloyds Banking Group head office
An “iconic” horse sculpture that used to stand proudly outside of the home of Lloyds Banking Group in Leeds has been removed.
Pictures were shared online of the sculpture, which was created by Peter Tysoe in 1976, being taken away from its site on Lovell Park Road outside of the former headquarters for the bank.

The sculpture was originally placed on Park Road outside of the bank’s former home before being moved in 2016 and named ‘Cancara’ after the black stallion that starred in the Lloyds Bank adverts.

Leeds residents shared memories of the “iconic” sculpture, a number of which involved climbing on it in their childhoods.
One person said: “My grandma worked at Lloyds on Park Row - she took me to see it when it was installed in the early 70’s! I thought it was magical!”
One person who used to work for the bank said: “I loved to look at the craftsmanship on that black horse. I loved the way the iron bars intertwined to create the structure.”
A spokesperson for Lloyds Banking Group confirmed that the statue was being removed to another company site but did not have details of which one it would be.
The bank moved to its new headquarters in June 2024 at an office building on Wellington Place.
