Pontefract hairdresser expands salon business with new venture

The business has grown since 2005

A local hairdresser is preparing to open a new business next to his existing salon.

Chris Walker has been renovating the unit beside his salon Ego, in Pontefract, and plans to launch Ego and Co there soon.

He is looking for three to four stylists to rent chairs at the new salon.

The new venture follows the growth of a business he first opened in 2005, when Ego began in a room at the former Fitness First gym on Parkside Retail Park, Pontefract. He moved the salon to Ropergate in 2013.

Chris bought the building on Ropergate two years ago and had been renting the neighbouring unit to ladies clothes shop The Wardrobe. After that shop closed, he decided to renovate the space.

He said he filled two skips while refurbishing the upstairs of the unit and turning it into an office.

Chris said: "It has been hard work but good fun. Ego clients are excited to see the new developments at the building."
