Traxlo, the platform connecting gig workers with retail businesses, today announces the launch of its UK operations in Leeds, with the city selected as Traxlo’s very first test hub for supermarket and grocery retail staffing.

For the last three-and-a-half years, Traxlo has been successfully redefining how European grocery retailers’ source, price and verify work and announced its launch in the UK earlier this month.

Traxlo will now work with supermarkets across Leeds to help solve one of retail’s most persistent challenges: finding reliable staff to keep shelves stocked and stores operating efficiently.

From today, Traxlo will offer its outcome-priced, pay-per-task model to UK grocery retailers in Leeds, including independently owned and operated convenience stores including franchisees delivering flexibility to manage peak trading periods, staff absence, sickness cover and short-notice operational needs, without the cost and rigidity of traditional hiring.

A spokesperson said: "Leeds has been chosen as Traxlo’s UK launch city due to its strong retail footprint, diverse labour market and central role in its economy.

"With major supermarket chains, regional distribution hubs and a growing population, Leeds offers the ideal environment to pilot a new approach to grocery staffing that balances affordability, flexibility and quality."

The launch comes at a time when UK supermarkets continue to face labour shortages, rising wage costs and reduced workforce availability following Brexit.

According to the European Parliament, 43 million Europeans are expected to work via digital labour platforms by 2025, highlighting a structural shift in how work is sourced — one that Traxlobelieves the UK grocery sector can now benefit from.

In its first three years, Traxlo collaborated with 60 per cent of the largest grocery and commerce players in Europe, delivering more than 300,000 completed tasks. The six most frequently fulfilled tasks include shelf restocking and replenishment and product expiry management.

CEO and Co-founder Paul Vezelis said: “Retailers are dealing with declining staff morale, rising employment costs and increasing operational complexity.

"By launching in Leeds, we’re putting our proven European model into a real UK retail environment, one with the scale, diversity and ambition to shape the future of grocery staffing.

“Our pay-per-task approach reduces time and cost, improves operational resilience, and creates meaningful local work.

"It allows supermarkets to stay competitive while supporting their communities, and we are proud to provide the community in Leeds not only with more jobs, but full shelves and happy retailers.”
