Paralympian inspires pupils at Yorkshire primary school

Antony, a talented sportsman whose life was transformed by an accident, led the students through sponsored exercise circuits and shared his journey from adversity to becoming a Paralympian. During the assembly, the children listened in awe as he recounted how he overcame challenges and achieved greatness. Bev Shacklady, the school's Curriculum Lead, remarked, “You could have heard a pin drop in the assembly. The children were absolutely enthralled by Antony’s story.”

Following the assembly, students participated in short exercise sessions with Antony, seeking sponsorship from friends and family to raise funds for new playground equipment. Headteacher Sallie Elliott praised the event, stating, “Antony’s story really embodies our Methley Magic Five values — motivation, perseverance, communication, collaboration, and respect. It was a privilege to see them in action in someone as successful as Antony.”

The visit not only motivated the students but also strengthened their commitment to improving their school environment, demonstrating the powerful impact of perseverance and determination.
