'Past its sell-by date': Leeds viewers’ brutal verdict on Love Island ahead of 2026 final

“So far past it's almost historical...” 🌴

It has been a whirlwind summer between the heatwaves and the World Cup, you might be shocked that it is almost the end of July.

As has become British TV tradition over the last decade, ITV has treated viewers to a brand new series of Love Island to keep them entertained on the long, warm nights. However, the 13th season of the legendary reality series is about to wind down with the finale just a few days away.

Before the show wraps up for another summer, we decided to ask the Yorkshire Evening Post readers if Love Island is past its sell-by date. See the post on Facebook here.

Reader Chris Shaw had a damning verdict. He wrote: “So far past it's almost historical........”

Echoing this, Gill Smith added: “Yea ran its course.”

In a more brutal response, Andrew Hurd said: “Past it sell by date since day1.”

Plenty of our other readers were eager to stress that they had “never watched it”, so they are perhaps not the best judges of whether it is past its sell-by date.

The 2026 summer series of Love Island UK saw a Leeds hopeful enter the famous villa for the first time in four years. 25-year-old Namibia was a bombshell who arrived to shake things up on day five, however she was dumped and left the show just 11 days later.

Speaking after her exit from the villa, the customer service officer said: “It’s mixed emotions. You want to be in there as long as you can to have time to find a real connection. A chunk of my time was in a friendship couple, and then I got in a couple with someone I actually liked and we were only coupled up for three or four days.

“It’s not the best but it’s an experience I’ve been able to do and the reception I got when I left from the girls and boys was really nice - they said I made the Villa.”

She added: “It was short but sweet. I had the best time - that group was perfect for me.

“I would. I’m one of those people in that life is about experiences. It’s been short for me but I’ve had such a good time and again not a lot of people get to do it. I’d say do it and have fun with it.”

After seven weeks of drama, the finale of season 13 is due to be broadcast on Monday (July 27). The live conclusion will air on ITV2 - and ITVX - and is set to start at 9pm, running for a little shy of 90 minutes and finishing by 10.20pm.
