Pupils across Leeds are collecting their eagerly anticipated A-Level results today, with many finding out if they’ve made their top-choice university.
The long-awaited day is the culmination of years of hard work and determination and marks the beginning of a new chapter for the city’s students.
Across the country, the proportion of A-level entries awarded top grades has risen for the third year in a row, likely driven by the popularity of maths and students scoring highly in it.
We went down to one of the country’s only specialist maths sixth forms to capture the excitement of A-Level results day.
At Leeds Mathematics School, which is a partnership between The Gorse Academies Trust and the University of Leeds, a quarter of students have achieved two or more A* grades - and 61% of all grades are A* or A.
12 students have been offered a place at Durham University, 10 have scooped spots at the University of Leeds, and eight students are on their way to Oxford or Cambridge.
The Principal, Robert Wilne, said: "I am so proud of our students for their exceptional achievements, individually and collectively.
"I want to thank them for their commitment and dedication, and also their parents and carers and all the LMaS teaching, pastoral and operations colleagues who have supported the students towards their successes.”
