Gildersome-based Leeds nursery raises £1,805 to support families facing childhood cancer

A south Leeds nursery has raised nearly £2,000 to support families facing childhood cancer.

Muddy Boots Gildersome, located on Finkle Lane, has raised an impressive £1,805 for Young Lives vs Cancer following a year of community fundraising. Staff and families celebrated the total with a visit from Krissy, a representative of the charity.

Over the past year, the Gildersome nursery ran a packed calendar of events including sponsored “teddy toddles,” raffles, bake sales, and other community activities. The efforts of staff, families and local supporters combined to reach the £1,805 total - enough to fund approximately 71 hours of direct support from a Young Lives vs Cancer specialist.

Fundraising highlights included themed activity days for children, family bake sales, and staff-led challenges that brought the nursery community together around a shared cause.

“We are immensely proud of the hard work of our families and staff,” a spokesperson for Muddy Boots Gildersome said.

“Seeing everyone come together for Young Lives vs Cancer has been truly moving. These funds will make a real difference to families when they need it most, and we’re grateful to everyone who gave their time, skills and kindness to make this possible.”

On a recent visit, Krissy from Young Lives vs Cancer met nursery staff to discuss the immediate impact of the donation. She explained that the money will go toward practical and emotional support for families, including contributing to a home‑from‑home base where families can rest and regroup during hospital stays, plus funding family support days that give parents and children a chance to connect with others who understand their experience.

The donation helps bridge gaps in support services and ensures families have access to people who can guide them through treatment, recovery and the challenges that follow.

Muddy Boots Nurseries provides early years childcare and education across multiple locations, focusing on nature-led learning, family involvement and community engagement.
