This Leeds nursery is undergoing a substantial refurbishment - 10 months after an Ofsted turnaround

Leeds Montessori School & Day Nursery, located on Wetherby Road, Roundhay, is undergoing a large-scale refurbishment aimed at transforming the learning environment, and creating calm, inspiring spaces to support every child’s development.

Alongside these physical changes, new management has been introduced, bringing fresh ideas, strong leadership and a clear vision for the future.

It comes 10 months after the nursery completed an impressive Ofsted ratings turnaround in March 2025, four months after it suffered a dramatic downgrade to Inadequate following an inspection in November 2024.

“Like many long-standing early years settings, the nursery has experienced its share of ups and downs over the years. Now, emerging from a challenging phase, Leeds Montessori is looking firmly to the future with renewed optimism and purpose,” a nursery spokesperson said.

“A key focus moving forward is reconnecting with the local community. Leeds Montessori is committed to rebuilding strong relationships with families, welcoming parents into nursery life, and creating meaningful partnerships that support children both at home and in the setting.”

Popular with parents in nearby Oakwood, prior to 2024’s inspection, Montessori had been rated as Outstanding in back-to-back Ofsted inspections in 2016 and 2020.

Described as a “substantial amount,” the refurbishment marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the site, focused on “care, learning and community.”

The nursery remains open as normal while work is carried. Spaces are currently available, and parents can enquire online via the Leeds Montessori website.
