Leeds twins celebrate remarkable GCSE results with 20 grade 9s between them
They’ve both set their sights on studying medicine at university
A pair of Leeds twins are celebrating a remarkable set of GCSE results after achieving a flawless sweep of 20 grade 9s between them.
Lochan and Lokesh Chakrabarti, pupils at The Grammar School at Leeds (GSAL), achieved similarly outstanding results and will now remain at the school to study A-levels in maths, further maths, biology and chemistry.
Both have their sights set on studying medicine at university, with their shared passion for science helping to inspire their ambitions.

“Ever since I was in primary school, I’ve wanted to become a doctor,” Lochan said. “I’ve always been fascinated by science and the opportunity to make a meaningful difference to the lives of patients.”
Lokesh added: “I’ve always loved science too – and it’s incredibly fulfilling to help people.”
The twins also found that preparing for their GCSEs together helped to ease the pressure of exam season.
“We worked as a team to make notes, write out essays and complete lots of past papers,” Lokesh said. “It saved us so much time and made the whole exam season a lot less stressful!”
Lochan said having his twin by his side also gave him an extra boost of confidence.
“Putting our two minds together definitely helped to build my confidence,” he added.
“It meant I always had somebody with me to strengthen my knowledge and test my understanding.”
Away from their studies, the twins share a passion for debating and music.
Both have reached the finals of the International Competition for Young Debaters and are also preparing to sit their Grade 7 clarinet exam this summer.
GSAL principal Michael Hall said the twins' achievements went far beyond their academic results.
“We’re so proud of what Lochan and Lokesh have achieved – yes, these incredible results, but also their commitment to the clarinet, school band and holding their own against the best debaters from all over the world,” he said.
“We can’t wait to see what they go on to do at sixth form.”
The twins are among GSAL’s Class of 2026, which also includes a young actor, a Yorkshire cricketer, a Team GB showjumper, two junior golfers and a Bradford City footballer.
Six pupils had particular cause for celebration after achieving grade 9s – the highest possible GCSE grade – in 10 subjects.
