Parents are being warned not to feed the recalled formula to their babies 🍼

  • It is a worrying time for parents with more baby formula being recalled over toxin fears.
  • Products from Nestle and Danone have been recalled in January and February.
  • Suspected illness in 36 babies has been linked to the contaminated formula.
  • Another batch of baby formula was recalled on Friday.

More baby formula has been recalled, following fears they may be contaminated with a toxin that can cause food poisoning.

On Friday (February 6), Danone issued an update to their recall on January 23, extending it to include Aptamil and Cow & Gate First Infant Milk and Follow-on Milk products.

Nestle and Danone have issued many baby formula recalls in recent months over fears they may contain the bacteria cereulide toxin, which can cause symptoms including nausea, vomiting and abdominal cramps.

It comes after 36 babies are suspected of falling ill after drinking contaminated baby formula, with parents being warned not to feed it to their babies.

Why is baby formula being recalled?

Baby formula from Nestle and Danone is being recalled over fears that it could be contaminated with the bacteria cereulide toxin, which can cause symptoms including nausea, vomiting and abdominal cramps.

A total of 36 babies have fallen ill so far after drinking milk that has since been recalled. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) is thoroughly investigating the recalls, with the contamination suspected to have originated from a shared third-party ingredient supplier.

What symptoms should parents watch out for?

It’s been a worrying time for parents, especially after the news that 36 babies are suspected to have fallen ill after drinking contaminated formula. Parents and caregivers are being urged to check their cupboards for any batches and not to feed any of the recalled products to babies.

Cereulide can cause symptoms of food poisoning from 30 minutes to six hours after ingestion. They can come on suddenly and include nausea, vomiting and abdominal cramps. While most cases will resolve within 24 hours, it has the potential to cause severe dehydration, which may need to be treated in a hospital.

If your baby has consumed any of the recalled formula or you have any concerns, seek advice from healthcare professionals.
