Castleford care home previously in special measures told to improve further Care Quality Commission

A Castleford care home that was placed in special measures by the health watchdog earlier this year has been told further improvements need to be made.

Manor Park Care Home on Leeds Road, Cutsyke, has since been removed from special measures but has been instructed by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) that further changes needed to be made with regard to staffing.

A new report by the CQC said: “Our assessment identified the provider had made improvements across many areas, although there were still some areas requiring further improvement, and systems that required further strengthening and embedding.

"For example, staffing, management of complaints and some quality assurance processes.

"The provider ensured there was a supportive, consistent and reliable management team in place to run the home, drive improvements and establish an open culture. Feedback was welcomed about improvements needed and leaders were committed to developing the service to enhance the quality of care for people living at Manor Park.”

It said the home was previously in breach of five regulations relating to person-centred care, staffing, management of risk, safeguarding and good governance.

But improvements have been made in four categories, with the only remaining breach in the staffing category.

In June, when the home was put into special measures it apologised.

A statement said: "We are deeply disappointed with the outcome of the most recent inspection and apologise unreservedly to our residents, their families and staff working within the home.

"We are committed to the safety, wellbeing, and dignity of those who reside with us and for whom we care for.

"This will always remain our paramount priority.

"Following the inspection, management have taken immediate steps to address the concerns raised.

"Leadership at the home has been strengthened, with a senior operations lead in post. In addition, senior independent oversight has been put in place to ensure consistent leadership and improved care.

"Staffing levels have been reassessed and agreed with external bodies along with an extensive staff training programme addressing all areas of safeguarding, medication, and care practices."

"Our focus now is on delivering meaningful and sustained improvements, and on restoring confidence in the care we provide.”
