Yesterday they walked through the street in their costumes and waved and greeted the children and families who came to watch them.

Nick said: “I decided to do this walk with the help of my son Ben, who studies costume design at university.

“He designed and created his Flash outfit, me and Ben do Cosplay at Comic Cons around the country.

“We contacted the Walker family, who did an original superhero walk a few weeks ago, I thought the more the better.”

Nick reached out to more residents in the Prince of Wales Estate Association to take part, until they had a team of seven heroes to walk on the day.

The local fire brigade and Blue Watch turned up to escort them, along with a police officer who volunteered her free time.

Nick said: “All the families came out to greet us, cheered for their favourite hero and took pictures.

“We also had collection buckets from the hospice where donations were collected by my wife and eldest son - we all maintained the social distancing rules.”

The aim of the walk is to help keep Pontefract Prince of Wales Hospice running throughout the COVID-19 crisis.

Nick said: “I’ve had so many comments on the residents association Facebook page and other media but one sticks out in my mind and brought a tear to my eye.
