Leeds families honour loved ones at emotional charity Starlight Hike
Hundreds of glowing tributes as Leeds charity hike raises thousands for hospice care
More than 140 people took part in Sue Ryder’s annual Starlight Hike Leeds, helping to raise more than £20,000 for the charity.
The event, supported by the University of Leeds, brought together families, friends and colleagues for a 10km walk in memory of someone special.
Walkers set off from the university and headed out towards Headingley, with many raising money in tribute to loved ones while supporting Sue Ryder’s end-of-life care and grief services.
The event is expected to raise at least £21,000, which will help Sue Ryder continue to provide expert palliative and bereavement support, including through Sue Ryder Wheatfields Hospice.

Anna Murphy, regional fundraising team manager for Sue Ryder, said: “As always, this year’s Sue Ryder Starlight Hike Leeds was filled with joy, laughter and memories, as well as the chance to honour and celebrate those close to us. It was absolutely wonderful.”
She added: “A big thank you to our amazing volunteers, sponsors the University of Leeds, for their generosity and backing in making this event possible.
“Every magical moment and step taken made a difference, helping to ensure no one has to face death or grief alone.”
Participants wore brightly coloured outfits, glitter and glow sticks as they made their way around the route.
They were also invited to pass through Sue Ryder Wheatfields Hospice to place a star in memory of someone important to them, before finishing the walk and receiving medals.
Last year, Sue Ryder provided more than 655,000 hours of expert care thanks to support from people taking part in events such as Starlight Hike.
