NHS begin spring Covid‑19 vaccinations to protect those most at risk in West Yorkshire

West Yorkshire residents who are most at risk of serious illness for Covid-19 can now book their spring vaccination.

Following the pandemic, health chiefs have warned Covid‑19 continues to circulate all year round and the respiratory illness can be particularly dangerous for older people or those with weakened immune systems.

As protection from previous vaccinations or infection can fade over time, the NHS is offering eligible people a further vaccine dose this spring.

Those deemed most at risk include people aged 75 and over, residents of care homes for older adults, and people aged six months or older with weakened immune systems.

Eligible people can now book an appointment online, over the phone, through the NHS app, or by visiting a walk-in vaccination site.

The NHS advises that an individual does not need an invitation before they book their appointment.

UK Health Security Agency data from the spring 2025 Covid‑19 vaccination programme showed that people who received a vaccine were around 50 per cent less likely to be admitted to hospital with Covid‑19.

Dr James Thomas, Medical Director at NHS West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board, said: “Covid‑19 is not just a winter illness and previous immunity can wane over time, so it is important that those most at risk top up their protection.

“The virus continues to be dangerous for older people and those with weakened immune systems, and we are encouraging everyone who is eligible to come forward as soon as possible to get protected.”
