Urgent recall of 15 popular perfumes over 'serious chemical risk' that may harm the reproductive system
An urgent product recall has been issued for 15 popular perfumes after they were found to contain chemicals prohibited in cosmetic products.
The fragrances, which include designer brands and celebrity perfumes sold by Savers Health and Beauty, pose a “serious chemical risk”, as they contain butylphenyl methylpropional (BMHCA/lilial) and/or hydroxyisohexyl 3-cyclohexene carboxaldehyde.
Both chemicals may cause harm to the reproductive system, the health of an unborn child, and may cause skin sensitisation. Anyone who has purchased the perfumes is being urged to return them for a full refund, with Savers Health and Beauty issuing an apology for “any inconvenience caused”.
What perfumes have been recalled?
The 15 perfumes sold by Savers Health and Beauty have been urgently recalled after being found to contain chemicals that pose a “serious risk”. They include popular brands such as Calvin Klein, Jean Paul Gaultier and Thierry Mugler, as well as celebrity perfumes by Beyonce and Rihanna.

The perfumes contain the chemical “butylphenyl methylpropional (BMHCA/lilial) and/or hydroxyisohexyl 3-cyclohexene carboxaldehyde”. Both chemicals are prohibited in the use of cosmetic products as they may cause harm to the reproductive system, the health of an unborn child, and may cause skin sensitisation.
What should you do if you have bought the perfume?
If you have purchased any of the perfumes affected, stop using them immediately and return them to the Savers store where they were purchased, where you will be issued a full refund.
