Various Pinderfields Hospital procedures postponed following shortage of medical material

A national shortage of medical bone cement has caused numerous procedures to be postponed at Pinderfields Hospital.

The current shortage of the medical material is affecting NHS hospitals across the country, following temporary production halts at one of its main global suppliers.

Because of this, a number of planned procedures over the weekend and into early next week will be postponed, the Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust has revealed.

The Trust stated that they “are aware” of the medical bone cement shortage and that they “understand that this situation may be worrying for patients awaiting joint surgery.”

Teams will be making contact with patients whose procedures have been postponed as required to discuss options and next steps.

Patients that do not hear from the Trust should assume their surgery is not impacted and will go ahead as planned.
