Students from Leeds Metropolitan University marched through the city centre to voice their anger over the closure of the Faculty of Health and Social Care. Elsewhere a future Leeds Rhinos star signed on the dotted line for the club. Jamie Jones-Buchanan would go on to play his entire professional career with Leeds, winning seven Super League Grand Finals, three World Club Challenges, three League Leaders' Shields and one Challenge Cup Final. Work was preparing to start on what would become Cardigan Fields leisure and entertainment centre in Kirkstall while a couple built a fish and chip shop in the garden of their Leeds home.
