The full glare of the spotlight was on Leeds United manager Terry Venables who was unhappy after the club agreed to sell Jonathan Woodgate to Newcastle United. The former England boss who had threatened to consider his position if Leeds accepted a bid for Woodgate, was non-comital regarding his future at an Elland Road press conference, saying he didn't want to make a knee-jerk reaction. Elsewhere the army was helping out after firefighters staged a series of 48 hour strikes. One primary school was celebrating Ofsted success while another was protesting about a proposed closure.
