A popular Indian restaurant in Leeds city centre has created a new £9.95 lunch menu to expand budget-friendly dining options in Leeds.

Kerala Canteen, based at 5 St Peter’s Place, has launched its lunch thali, which is described as an “affordable introduction to Kerala cuisine.”

Offering comforting curries, fragrant rice and traditional accompaniments on one plate, the new menu is available from Thursday to Sunday from 12 noon.

Kerala Canteen specialises in authentic recipes inspired by the Kerala region in India, with bold flavours and quality local ingredients.

The lunch thali enables diners to try a combination of curry and rice alongside accompaniments, which enables several complementary flavours and textures to be enjoyed as one complete meal.

Bobby Geetha, owner of Kerala Canteen and star of MasterChef: The Professionals, said: "Some of the best food I remember growing up in Kerala wasn't expensive or complicated. It was a plate of rice, curry and different accompaniments eaten together.

"That's what we want our lunch thali to represent. You shouldn't need a special occasion or a big budget to experience proper regional Indian food.

“For £9.95, someone can walk into Kerala Canteen at lunchtime and discover the comforting flavours we grew up eating."

Alongside the new lunch thali, Kerala Canteen is introducing an additional discount for students, NHS staff, and people working in Leeds city centre.

These diners can access 15% off their lunch bill if they book in advance between 12pm and 2pm and can present valid ID.

The initiative is designed to make Kerala Canteen a practical lunchtime destination rather than somewhere reserved only for evening dining and special occasions.

Bobby Geetha said: "We're surrounded by students, businesses, healthcare workers, theatres and some of the busiest parts of Leeds.

“We wanted to create a lunch that people working or studying nearby could genuinely come back and enjoy regularly."
