Burgerism: Takeaway which sells some of the best burgers in Britain plans to open in Leeds
An award-winning burger chain could open in Leeds if plans can be agreed with the city council.
Manchester-based takeaway firm Burgerism is seeking permission to set up shop in a vacant unit at 605 Meanwood Road, in Meanwood.
Leeds City Council has been asked to grant planning permission for a change of use of the former Papa Johns outlet, previously only allowed to sell pizzas.
A planning report said the unit had been vacant since April this year.

Burgerism was seeking to expand into West Yorkshire and open for food sales and deliveries at the site.
The report said: “The brand Burgerism was founded by the applicant in 2018 and has grown to become a cult burger brand.
“Recently the company has been named one of The Times Top 10 Burgers in Britain, and named in 2025 by the Sunday Times as the Best Medium Sized Hospitality Employer in the UK.”
The new takeaway would employ up to 15 people from the local area, the report said.
It said: “The proposal will ensure the continued use of a vacant hot food takeaway, and will support the vitality and continued viability of the town centre of Meanwood with an exciting new operator in the market.”
