Danny Malin: 'I tried the new American deli which is my new favourite sandwich hot spot'
Danny Malin has found one of his new favourite sandwich hot spots in Leeds 🥪
After spending most of May and June in the States, I found it almost ironic to be back in Yorkshire trying a brand new American deli.
Granny G’s has opened up inside the Green Room, on Wellington Street, right near the Queen’s Hotel.
The newest addition is the brainchild of one of the guys behind Little Bao Boy.
I know from previous experience that their baos are sensational but I wondered how would they would fare with sandwiches ?
Granny G’s only sells hoagies aka American-style sub sandwiches - using tiger bread.
I’ll be honest they had me at tiger bread.
I have been known in the past to treat myself to an entire loaf of tiger bread complete with lashings of butter and cheese shoved inside.
Granny G’s have around ten sandwiches on their menu including vegan options.
From Granny’s meatballs, chicken Caesar and shrimp po’boy to aubergine parm, vegetarian deli and a spicy cold cuts sandwich.

I started with the deli meats sandwich for £12 containing prosciutto cotto, salami napoli, coppa, provolone, lettuce, red onion, tomato, extra virgin olive oil and vinegar.
It looked so neat and perfectly put together. It lived up to its looks too, it really was like eating an Italian dream.
I was less excited by the fillings in my next sandwich.
A Shrimp Po’ Boy contains fried shrimp, cajun lemon mayo and hot sauce. I’m not into my seafood but wow this tasted good.
It didn’t look as neat as my New York deli sub but it tasted amazing.
Finally it was time to taste the chicken parm which contains a chicken cutlet, marinara, mozzarella, house pesto, basil and parmesan. This would make the ideal airport sandwich.
For three sandwiches it was just under £40 which sounds expensive but these subs are huge and they use locally sourced produce.
Normally I share with my camera man but I made sure to take the leftovers home as these were just too good.
Granny G’s definitely competes for my top spot of the best sandwich shop.
