Danny Malin: I tried the Leeds restaurant promising 'the UK's best pizza' - and it got a solid 10
Danny tried out one of Leeds’ top pizza chains 🍕
I love my pizza, but I’m not normally a fan of pizza chains.
I had to try a pizza chain restaurant, however, at what’s been dubbed the UK’s best pizza for my Danny Vs Food channel.
Pizza Pilgrims opened its first northern branch in 2023 in Leeds on Boar Lane.
I set up my table and chair on the side street next to the restaurant. They’re known for their 72-hour double-fermented Neapolitan sourdough bases.
I’ve not been to Naples yet, but I know I need to visit the home of pizza.
I ordered the best-seller double pepperoni and hot honey pizza, the eight cheese pizza and smoked mozzarella bites.
Then a Nutella ring pizza for dessert. Cheese me, cheese me baby!
The mozzarella bites promise a cheese pull and they certainly deliver. The eight cheese pizza comes with an entire ball of buffalo mozzarella in the centre. It also has ricotta, Gorgonzola and Fior Di Latte cow’s milk mozzarella on it.
Wow - it’s just as well I’m a cheese man, as this was cheesy heaven. The pepperoni pizza was top-notch too. So much so, as I only ever nibble to taste what I’m having, I gave the rest of the pizza away to hungry passers-by, much to the cameraman’s dismay, as he was hoping to take a bite first.
I was then served my Nutella pizza ring. For under £7, this was a banging sweet dessert.
Granted, I did order three rounds of dough done in different ways, but they do also serve up salads. It was all reasonably priced too.
What adds to the experience is the friendliness of the staff, from the waitress serving to the pizza chefs cooking in the open kitchen. It had to be a solid ten for me as I couldn’t fault any of the experience.
