Danny Malin reveals 'We're expecting' and visits Wagamama, Toby Carvery and Wetherspoons
In this week’s column Danny Malin there is a new baby on board as he looks at family-friendly options to eat out.
This week has been a big week for me personally and professionally - I’ve launched my new channel with my first review - and I’ve announced that my wife Sophie and I are expecting another baby.
As much as I like to eat and drink at independent establishments, where possible, when it comes to eating out with our big family, sometimes a chain is the easiest and cheapest option to cater for everyone.
In my first video on my Danny Vs Food channel, I try Gordon Ramsay Street Pizza in Liverpool.
We have five kids at home, aged from two years-old to 16 years old, all with different tastes and dietary requirements, however. Cost and having a varied menu is top of our list.
At the top of our family-friendly places to eat, which fit the bill for us, is Toby Carvery. Not only does it mean we get to eat out altogether, dining around a table with the whole family, but they also always do a good roast and offer vegan options too. It also means our kids with big appetites can fill up on vegetables, Yorkshire puddings, and some of us with meat, too. You don’t have to pay extra for gravy, and drinks tend to be refillable. They also do a banging cooked breakfast, complete with a giant Yorkshire pudding.

Our favourite breakfast as a family is a Harvester breakfast, as they do it on the grill. If we want something cheap and cheerful, the kids enjoy Wetherspoons too, but for me, these rarely feel like a treat. It’s much more about the booze in Spoons, which gives it a different atmosphere. Although my wife Sophie Mei Lan said she can’t return to Wetherspoons while pregnant after vomiting up their Christmas dinner.
Ironically, my wife, who is a vegetarian, loves taking the kids to Hickory’s Smokehouse because they have an indoor cinema and an outdoor play area for the kids, as well as veggie options for her. It is a little more expensive, however.

If we want clean, tasty, and reasonably priced fast food, we love Wagamama’s; it never fails to impress. The kids' menu includes a range of dishes for £5 for a hearty bowl of ramen or £7.50 for a kids' Bento box. Although our kids always spend a lot on drinks, at least for my wife and I, we save money by ordering free unlimited green tea and tap water.
In our latest Mr and Mrs Yorkshire video, we try Morrison’s Cafe for breakfast which was £15 for two full English breakfasts and two refill drinks. Although this definitely did not make the list.
If you’ve got any recommendations for my wife and me for our Mr and Mrs Yorkshire channel with the family in tow, or for my new food channel, Danny vs Food, where I get to go out and review child-free - let me know.
