Danny Malin: Why I'm skipping my beloved roast dinner this Easter Sunday
I love spring, where everyone starts to gear up for the summer months.
Markets are busy again, the car boots are back on, and the days are lighter.
While everyone prepares for Easter Sunday with chocolate eggs and hunts, for me, it’s all about the roast.
I like to get the biggest leg of lamb I can from the local butchers, with fresh potatoes, and all the trimmings. I think dinner on Easter Sunday is just a turkey away from Christmas dinner. I’m not a big turkey fan anyway, so it’s better.

But this Easter, my family have thrown a bit of a curve ball, as it’s my wife’s birthday and the last chance for a family getaway together for a while. So we will be spending Easter on the Yorkshire coast.
I’m not complaining as some of the best fish and chips, ice cream shops and cafes are hidden away here.
While my wife and family go on walks and find a church, I’m going to be on the hunt for some of the best grub on offer. Where do you recommend on the Yorkshire coast?
I’ve got my heart set on Hetty Betty for a chippy afternoon tea, Humble Pie Cafe and Filey Food Festival. If it’s down to my favourite chippy, I’d choose The Magpie in Whitby and for dessert Harbour Bar in Scarborough.
My wife is going on a long hike with the family, which will give me some time to explore new places.
I think I’ll just manage without my leg of lamb on Easter Sunday, although when I’m home on Easter Monday I may treat myself to a Barnsley Chop or two.
