'A huge milestone': Couple behind beloved Sardinian restaurant Domo confirm first Leeds opening

The couple behind a beloved Sardinian restaurant have confirmed a “huge milestone”, as they prepare to open their first Leeds site.

Husband-and-wife duo Sarah Elliott-Busceddu and Raffaele Busceddu opened Domo in Sheffield in 2019, with a mission to celebrate traditional Sardinian food culture.

The restaurant was recently named in Condé Nast’s list of best restaurants in Sheffield, and readers of our sister title The Star have even said the restaurant deserves a Michelin Star.

After teasing the location of “Domo 2.0” last month, the couple have now confirmed they’re set to open the doors to their first restaurant in Leeds.

Located along the canal at Tower Works, the restaurant will offer around 95 covers inside, along with outdoor seating for 25. Domo Leeds is expected to open in the spring.

Sarah said: “Opening our second restaurant feels incredibly special. Domo started as a shared dream, built from years of hard work and a deep love for Sardinian food culture and to be bringing that passion to Leeds is a huge milestone for us and one we’re really proud of.

“We both spend a lot of time in Leeds, and we absolutely love the city and the people. When we discovered the site at Tower Works, we knew instantly it had to be the home of Domo Leeds.

“We’re so excited to join the incredible indie food scene here and become part of the local community.”

Diners can expect rustic and authentic flavours, Sarah added, with a menu that champions dishes rarely seen outside Sardinia - all made entirely in-house.

The restaurant will also offer a daily lunch menu with takeaway options for local residents and office workers in the city’s South Bank neighbourhood, as well as weekend breakfasts.

Works to fit out the restaurant are already underway. Designed in collaboration with interior specialists 93 Ft, Domo Leeds will boast a striking circular cocktail bar, hand-woven Sardinian baskets made by Raffaele’s aunts, traditional hand-carved masks from Mamoiada, artwork by Sardinian artists and a bold mural celebrating the island’s culture.

Tables are bespoke by Made By Hands, complete with authentic Sardinian tiles. The space will also include high tables overlooking the canal and an open kitchen, allowing diners to watch the chefs at work.
