Meet the Leeds business serving Yorkshire puddings with a twist - from Sunday dinner to street food
Mike’s passion for Yorkshire puddings started at home, with his grandmother
There are few foods more synonymous with Yorkshire than the humble Yorkshire pudding.
For generations, the golden, crispy-edged staple has held its place alongside a Sunday roast- but one Leeds business is giving it a new lease of life.
We went down to Kirkgate Market to speak to the owner of Yorkshire Wrap Company, Mike Pratt.
Mike’s passion for Yorkshire puddings started at home, with his grandmother.

“I learnt everything from my grandma, and my love for Yorkshire puddings came from her too,” he said.
And it wasn’t just gravy that found its way into the family’s leftover yorkies.
“If there were ever any spare from Sunday dinner, she was the one that got me to have jam in a Yorkshire pudding, and they were absolutely amazing!” he told us.
Now, that childhood favourite has become the centrepiece of a business, with the Yorkshire Wrap Company turning the traditional pudding into a wrap.
It might sound like an unusual combination, but for Mike, the Yorkshire pudding has always been about more than the food itself.
“The perfect Yorkshire pudding is made by a Yorkshireman,” he joked. “And of course, the perfect mix of flour, eggs, and milk.”
While the business is continuing to grow, he admits it is not without its challenges, with hospitality businesses across the country facing increasingly difficult trading conditions.

“Our business is going well, but it’s tough times everywhere at the moment,” he said.
“But we’ll just keep bottling through, and see how we go.”
For Mike, there is also something to be said for celebrating traditional British food rather than dismissing it as old-fashioned.
“People tend to put ‘English’ food as a bit bland and a bit boring,” he said.
“But seasoned well, and made well, it’s some of the tastiest food in the world.”
And if there’s one thing he wants Leeds food lovers to do, it’s to give his take on the Yorkshire pudding a try.
“Come down and try our roast beef wrap with homemade horseradish sauce,” he told us.
“It’s quality!”
So perhaps the Yorkshire pudding’s future isn’t necessarily sitting beside a roast after all. It could be wrapped around one!
