Get Baked: Leeds-founded viral bakery announces London store opening weeks after Headingley closure
The company said that it closed its Headingley store due to a ‘significant rise in rents and rates’
A popular bakery that closed its Leeds store earlier this year has announced that it will be opening a new shop in London.
Get Baked, which has been a huge hit online, closed its Headingley store in February; citing a “significant rise in rents and rates” after their lease had come to an end.
On April 27, the company announced on its Instagram page that they would be opening a new store in Covent Garden, London, adding: “Lots of exciting news to reveal in due course. Aiming for a July opening.”

The caption along with the post says: “A new concept, littered with nostalgia.”
Get Baked operated from its store on North Lane in Headingley for five years before closing.
Owner Rich Myers said that at the time that they opened “it was a requirement of the landlord that the lease was personally guaranteed”.
He wrote: “At the time I had little to lose, and didn’t think twice.
“Now our lease is up for renewal, with the same requirement for me to personally guarantee it — the difference being that I have a lot more to lose, and with a significant rise in rent and rates, paired with the obvious strains on hospitality that everyone’s more than aware of — I can no longer personally guarantee the lease.”
He said that the new lease would mean that it would cost more to run the store than it does their store in Manchester’s Northern Quarter. He added that the business currently needs to make at least £500,000 per month to break even.
Mr Myers said that the online shop and their Manchester store will remain open, before adding that “online is very much the future” of Get Baked.
Get Baked was first created from Mr Myers’ kitchen in 2011 and has attracted popularity online, with more than 340,000 followers on Instagram and five million likes on TikTok.
