Greggs 'benches' three popular sarnies - with surprise menu change in Leeds for World Cup

Say adios to three Greggs favourites… at least for today 👀

Greggs has issued an ‘urgent announcement’ warning customers in Leeds that they will not be able to get three popular items - as they’ve been ‘benched’ from the menu for 24 hours.

World Cup fever is sweeping the country ahead of England’s round of 16 match against Mexico. Despite the late kick-off time, 1am on Monday (July 6), plenty of pubs will be open in the city.

However, if you are craving one of Greggs’ Mexican sandwiches - you will be out of luck, at least for today (July 5).

In a post on social media, the official Greggs account issued an ‘urgent announcement’. The post reads: “Attention / Atención - please see our official statement regarding the sale of Mexican chicken sandwiches on Sunday 5th July. Sandwiches benched:

“Mexican Chicken Flatbread / Mexican Chicken Oval Bite / Mexican Chicken Baguette

“Back on Monday... pending the result 👀”

The full statement added: “After careful consideration we’ve decided to say adios and bench our Mexican chicken sandwich range from all English shops for the duration of the day.

“This is due to the following reasons: It’s Coming Home.”

Greggs continued: “To our customers in Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales - enjoy. We know whose side you are on.

“Thank you for your consideration on this important matter.”
