Hoc Loco Leeds review: This Horsforth wine bar is a neighbourhood gem - and the service was exceptional
There are few better ways to spend a midweek evening than catching up with good friends over great wine, and my Thursday night visit to Hoc Loco proved just that.
Tucked away in Horsforth, this unassuming little bar is quietly building a reputation as one of the most interesting spots for wine lovers in the area.
Stepping through the door, we were greeted by a calm, relaxed atmosphere. It was quiet, yes, but that only added to the charm and felt like a treat to enjoy an atmosphere like this before what will undoubtedly be a busy Christmas period to come.
We were served by Emma, the owner, whose passion for wine shines through in every interaction. Without prompting, she began offering tasters and talking us through the origins and stories behind each bottle. It didn’t feel rehearsed or forced, just genuine enthusiasm from someone who clearly loves what they do.

The wine itself is outstanding, there’s a thoughtful balance of artisan and natural wines, but it’s the more unusual bottles that make Hoc Loco stand out. A sparkling non-alcoholic red immediately caught our attention, something rarely seen on any wine list and a brilliant example of the kind of forward-thinking choices this bar is championing.
Then came the Carry Carry, an organic red with a fascinating backstory and a commitment to sustainable, small-scale production. These are the kinds of wines that speak to Emma’s careful curation and her eye for the unique. But it’s not just wine on offer - with an impressive selection of craft beer both on tap and in the fridge, there are options for everyone.
Snacks and charcuterie are also on hand to accompany the great drinks selection. We opted for some smoked almonds, which paired perfectly with the depth of flavour in the Carry Carry. Our bill totalled to £28.50, which for the three glasses of wine and snacks, at such high quality, was fantastic value.

It’s rare to find somewhere that combines passion, personality and value quite so effortlessly. Hoc Loco isn’t just a place to drink wine; it’s a place to learn, catch up with friends and to feel part of something special. Emma has created a space that feels both sophisticated yet relaxed and welcoming, with a real sense of community at its heart.
For anyone who loves wine or wants to be introduced to it in a new way, Hoc Loco is a must-visit. Quietly brilliant, thoughtfully curated and utterly charming.
